The League of Women/Men Voters and other organizations have a campaign to register voters through out the country on this date. The theme for activity is “Register in September, Vote in November.” The League has placed voter registration and absentee ballot request forms at local post offices, libraries and senior citizen centers. You can also stop in and register at the Cortland County Elections Office on 112 River Street in Cortland. It’s in the same building as the Department of Motor Vehicles.
The last day to register in person at the Cortland County Election Office is October 12. If mailing in your registration form, it must be postmarked no later than October 12th and received by the Elections Office no later than October 17. If you have moved you need to re-register. To be able to vote with an absentee ballot you have to complete and mail in an absentee ballot request form by October 30. You have until November 5 to apply in person for an absentee ballot.
If you have access to the internet you can find information for registering, where to vote, information about candidates and their views and more at a site provided by the NYS League of Women/Men Voters, Www.VOTE411.org. You can register on line at https://mydmv.ny.gov/crm/ or www.elections.state.ny.us. Additional information about the election plus dates, times and places of candidate forums and information about the League of Women/Men Voters of Cortland County can be found at the Cortland League’s website, www.lwvcc.wordpress.com.
The League of Women/Voters, a non-partisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues and influence public policy through education and advocacy. Membership is open to citizens of all ages. The Cortland League also has a “Friends” category for those who support the League’s activities.
