4th Annual Prom Dress Donation Drive

The City of Cortland Youth Bureau’s Youth Center is proud to announce our 4th annual Prom Dress Donation Drive. Since its inception the program has provided more than one hundred and fifteen young girls in our community dresses and accessories. The overwhelming support from community members has made a significant impact on these teens.

The Cortland Youth Bureau (CYB) is partnering with the SUNY Cortland chapter of NYPIRG. Young girls in our community will be welcome to attend giveaways for their formal wear needs free of charge. For a small donation dress alterations will be available to girls who receive their gown through the program. Cortland Prom Closet Giveaways will be held at the CYB Youth Center on March 24th and April 14th both from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm. Students who cannot attend one of these giveaways are encouraged to schedule an appointment.

To date we have collected well over 400 dresses. Many of these dresses are brand-new and were only worn for a fashion show. Refreshments, giveaways and styling advice including nails, hair and makeup will be provided by volunteers.

Community members interested in donating formal wear or accessories can drop items off during regular business hours from 9am until 5pm at the CYB main office or the CYB Youth Center, 35 Port Watson St or the NYPIRG office located at 215 Corey Union, SUNY Cortland. Monetary donations are also welcome and are used to cover expenses such as purchasing display racks and supplemental inventory in sizes not collected during donation drives. Interested business owners looking to partner with our program are encouraged to contact the City of Cortland Youth Bureau.
