It’s a sweet way to kick off the 42 Annual CNY Maple Festival, on Saturday, March 24, when ten (10) pancake eaters mount the Marathon High School Stage, in the auditorium, for the 16th Annual Pancake Eating Contest. The 9:00am contest has become a “Festival favorite”. Don’t miss it
Forking down pancakes for their favorite “not-for-profit” organizations are: returning champion Bill Tillotson who ate 26 pancakes , in 15 minutes, last year for the Marathon Methodist Church; Tyler Hoellerer representing the MCS Class of 2014; Jason Wood will be eating for the Family Resource Center; Jason Sayles is on deck for the Triangle Baptist Church; Marathon Teacher Jim Ryan will be eating for the MCS PTO; Jeff Contri is representing his classmates – the Class of 2013; Jared Hammond will be eating for the First Baptist Church’s Teen Club; Melissa Pratt is eating pancakes for “Bucks for Buffie”; Roger Morehouse is on deck for “Committed to a Cure” a chapter of Cortland County’s Relay for Life; and Don McConnell who is eating for MCS Girls Field Hockey Team.
Every organization mentioned has been actively soliciting donations and pledges per pancake. The Maple Festival donates $2 a pancake to each charity. Last year over $8,000 total was earned by the pancake eaters.
What is the record number of pancakes eaten by a single eater? The number is 35. That is the record! Joe LaRue of Kentucky holds it and has promised to return to encourage all the eaters and assist with the contest. LaRue, who has retired from competitive eating will do an on stage interview at 11am that day, following the contest.
Come and cheer on the participants. This contest promises to be an exciting event, come and be a part of good old fashioned fun!
