Country Kitchen & Country Kitchen II to Celebrate Anniversaries
Posted by Dustin Horton // November 2, 2011 // Local Business
Whitney Point Country Kitchen and Country Kitchen II, owned and operated by Douglas Chidester and Carol Furgeson, are both looking forward to anniversaries this fall. Country Kitchen, located at 2884 Route 11 in Whitney Point, will be celebrating 27 years in business in November. Its Cortland companion, County Kitchen II located at 145 Clinton Street, reached its first-year mark on October 4th. Though both locations will be offering specials for their anniversaries, a lot of focus is on Country Kitchen II, the younger sibling.
“We weren’t really looking to open another restaurant,” said Carol. “It just kind of happened, kind of fell into our lap. We were here for breakfast one morning; the previous owner wanted to sell . . . and here we are.”
Despite the unplanned opening of the new restaurant, Carol and Doug are pleased with the Cortland location. “We’ve made a lot of new friends here,” Carol said. “And our old friends come up here, too. We’re very happy here.”
What do the Country Kitchen restaurants have to offer? A friendly, welcoming atmosphere, a full menu, and great service.
“We offer home-cooked meals, including homemade pies, soups, and salads. We have a kids’ menu, and we offer a 10% discount for seniors on every meal over $4.00 (this discount is 20%) on Wednesdays). Our meats are all char-broiled, and we have a full range of dishes on our menu, including shrimp, steaks such as ribeye and strip steaks; and liver is very popular. We are also trying a new ‘signature’ steak that’s served with mushrooms, onions, and Swiss cheese. It’s fabulous; it’s extremely tender!”
Carol believes that reasonable pricing is a great draw for customers. “We keep our prices low so that our customers can come in and enjoy a meal at affordable prices,” she said. “Our breakfasts start at $2.49. But we don’t skimp on food quality,” she added. “We give everyone the best possible food at the lowest possible price.” And breakfast is served all day which include 3 egg omlettes, breakfast sandwiches and much more!
Carol and Doug are also proud of their staff in both restaurants. “Our goal is to provide courteous service, to be welcoming and friendly, and to try to make our customers comfortable, well-fed, and happy when they leave. We have a great crew in both restaurants – we have excellent cooks and waitresses.”
Carol and Doug are looking forward to future anniversaries at Country Kitchen II. “We are very fortunate,” Carol said. “We really love it here. Our customers have given us a great first year, and we look forward to providing service to our current and future customers.”
Country Kitchen and Country Kitchen II invite you to stop in, have a home-cooked meal, and wish them congratulations at either location!
