WHAT: Historic Ithaca’s Annual Fall Fundraiser
WHEN: Sunday September 25th, 5pm to 7:30pm
WHERE: Richard Meier-designed Dotson House, Danby, NY
Why is Modernism of interest to an historic preservation organization? Historic Ithaca is celebrating its 45th anniversary and the architecture of the recent past on Sunday September 25th from 5pm to 7:30 pm at 246-248 Updike Road in Danby NY, with tours of the Dotson House, live music by The Blind Spots, local beer & wine, and light fare. Tickets are $75.00 with proceeds benefiting the work of Historic Ithaca. Register by Friday, September 16 at www.historicithaca.org.
Historic Ithaca selected Modernism for this year’s fundraiser theme because of the little-known but important collection of Modernist buildings in Tompkins County, many of them designed by Cornell University Architecture faculty and students. Historic Ithaca recognizes that these buildings tell an important story and occupy a unique place in our local architectural history, though many of them are less than 50 years old, the traditional benchmark for consideration on the National Register of Historic Places.
Recently restored by new owners, the Dotson House sits on a 100-acre hilltop property that is held in easement by the Finger Lakes Land Trust, protecting the wooded site and its spectacular views of Cornell University and Danby. Join the celebration on the 25th for a one-time opportunity to tour this private residence, and see why Historic Ithaca is “Mad for Modernism.”
