Motorcycles on Main Street

On August 6th, 2011, Cortland will host its first ever “Poker Run” for motorcycle enthusiasts to support Toys for Tots Cortland County. Unique opportunities for summer fun experiences on Main Street continue to grow as additional events like the “Poker Run” are added every year.
What is a “Poker Run”?

A “Poker Run” combines a motorcycle tour with a game of poker. The event starts at a registration location where each rider gets a poker hand sheet and one card. The card is verified and marked down on the poker hand sheet. Each rider then travels to four other locations drawing a card that is verified on their poker hand sheet at each destination. At the last stop a fifth and final card is drawn and their poker hand sheet is submitted to determine who has the best hand.

The Toys for Tots Poker Run will start registration at 8:30 a.m. in front of Edward Jones Investments located at 21 Main St. in Historic Downtown Cortland, with three stops throughout the scenic central NY countryside and conclude in Cortland at the American Legion, Post 489 at 212 Tompkins Street. The first group of bikes will leave downtown at 9:30 a.m. and the last bike will leave by 11:00 a.m.

The Toys for tots Poker Run will include a 50/50 raffle, door prizes, BBQ lunch and music. Prizes for top three hands will be awarded during lunch. Registration on the day of the event on August 6th starts at 8:30 a.m. and hands will cost $25. Goodie Bags to the first 100 rider.

The Cortland Downtown Partnership is proud to work with the Cortland County Marine Corps League and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve to assist in their mission of ensuring a brighter, more joyful Christmas for children of Cortland County that are less fortunate through the Toys for Tots Cortland County program. Last year the Toys for Tots program supplied toys to 1,315 children in Cortland County. Locally the Toys for Tots Foundation’s cause to support ratio is 97% to 3%. This ratio is one of the highest performance levels of any charities with 97% of funds used to put new toys in the hands of Cortland County children and only 3% of funds spent on support of that effort.
