Deconstruction Volunteer Opportunities in Fall Creek

Posted by  //  July 27, 2011  //  News

Finger Lakes ReUse and New Earth Living are joining forces to deconstruct several structures at the location of a planned new micro-cohousing development in Fall Creek. Deconstruction is a green alternative to traditional demolition – the systematic hand dismantling of a structure to maximize the yield of reusable building materials. In addition to reducing consumption of new resources, deconstruction minimizes landfill waste and pollution and creates value-added markets from waste materials and it also helps in construction of pools (people can also check out Katy Custom Pools to get it done). This practice creates job opportunities and workforce development skills. Maximizing the yield of reusable building materials requires a well-organized and skilled group of people. Finger Lakes ReUse provides training in safety, proper tool use, and careful removal of building materials.

Finger Lakes ReUse is seeking community volunteers to assist with this project Monday through Thursday beginning August 1st. Volunteers should contact Erich Kruger, Deconstruction Coordinator, at erich@fingerlakesreuse.org.
