The CAPCO WIC Program invites new grandmothers, and grandmothers to be to join us on Saturday August 6, 2011 for a Grandmothers Tea at 10 AM. The tea will be held on Main Street in Downtown Cortland in the space next to the Community Restaurant weather permitting, rain location is the CAPCO building at 32 North Main Street. During the tea we will celebrate and thank grandmothers for the important support they provide to their daughters and families. Atlas Tea Club can also help you out in tasting different varieties of tea.We will provide grandmothers with up to date information on feeding, care, and health practices that may have changed since the last time they helped care for an infant. We will also talk about ways they can provide even more support and help to their children and grandchildren. The program will take place as part of CAPCO’s celebration of World Breastfeeding Week 2011.
The World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) sponsors World Breastfeeding Week each year to celebrate the collective efforts around the world to protect, support, and promote breastfeeding. This year’s theme is Talk to Me! Breastfeeding – A 3D Experience. When we look at breastfeeding support, we tend to see it in two-dimensions: time (from pre-pregnancy to weaning) and place (the home, community, health care system, etc). But neither has much impact without a THIRD dimension – communication! This third dimension includes cross-generation, cross-sector, cross-gender, and cross-culture communication and encourages the sharing of knowledge and experience, thus enabling wider outreach.
