Breastfeeding for the Health of It!

Are you a new or expectant mom who wants to nurse her baby? If so, you may qualify for free Breastfeeding Support offered through the Nutrition Education Program at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County.

Women who are eligible for WICMedicaidFood Stamps or similar programs can attend this FREE workshop series. Join any time – classes are ongoing and topics are repeated in the next set of workshops!

This series of our free “Breastfeeding for the Health of It” class meets on 6 mornings from 10:00 am – 12:00 Noon OR evenings from 6:00-8:00 pm.  In this class, you will meet other moms and our staff, and will learn about these topics:

  • Mother’s Health (you will receive a free nutrient assessment at the first meeting!) (6/20)
  • The Importance of Breastfeeding for Mothers and Babies (6/27)
  • Changes that happen when you are pregnant that get you ready to breastfeed your baby (7/11)
  • How to position your baby to get proper latch and prevent sore nipples (7/18)
  • How to pump and store breast milk — learn how long breast milk can be kept at room temperature, in the refrigerator and in the freezer (7/25)
  • How to breastfeed in public, and the laws that protect breastfeeding mothers (8/1)

When you attend these sessions, you will go home with items such as: baby wipes with convenient portable case, disposable breast pads, medicine dropper, baby’s 1st year calendar, fever thermometer and various other items of interest to parents with a new baby.

Meets Mondays, June 20, 27, July 11, 18, 25 & August 1
