In the continued efforts of the Cortland County Council of Churches and Habitat for Humanity of Tompkins and Cortland Counties to build a home, the organizations are hosting a concert series entitled, “Music From the Center” to raise funds. Kicking off the series was the SUNY Cortland Rock and Blues Ensemble on Friday, May 6th. The next stars of the series are a local band known as, ‘The Tarps,’ who will play on May 22nd. The Tarps are a cover band composed of a group of venerable locals who love to make music, entertain, and have fun. They play mostly 50s & 60s classic rock with occasional forays into the 70s & 80s.
When they aren’t busy bringing musical enjoyment to listeners, the members of the band are busy with professional careers. Bass guitarist Ira Kamp and keyboardist/vocalist Steve Ungberg can be caught filling cavities as both are dentists in the local Ithaca area. Saxophone and flute player Tony Lister works as an Ithaca mental health worker, and drummer/vocalist Mike Mangini is a high school physics teacher for the Dryden Central School District. Vocalist Russ Fuller dons cleats as a soccer referee in addition to studying the amphibious life of Texas as an herpetologist, and lead guitarist/vocalist Danny Scott is an avid hiker who works at Cornell Veterinary School as a Veterinary Dermatologist.
If you’re looking for a good time to relax and enjoy some music, or maybe you’d rather dance to the music, you will find this article interesting to come to the Interfaith Center at 7 Calvert St at 6:30 on May 22nd.
This fundraising series will feature an eclectic mix of music from rock and roll to opera. Steve Farrell and Andrea Rankin are organizing the fundraising efforts on behalf of the Council and Habitat respectively. If you know someone who would like to be added to our musical lineup, please contact Andrea Rankin at 607-753-8510.
