Habitat for Humanity Invites Local Women to Build in Honor of National Women Build Week

Habitat for Humanity of Tompkins and Cortland Counties will be celebrating National Women Build Week and Mother’s Day with an action-packed, blitz-building “Women Build Weekend” on May 6th and 7th!
Be one of dozens of women and girls to volunteer on Habitat’s job site and help raise the walls at our current construction project in Lansing. Grab your mom, sister, colleague, or friend, or come by yourself, and see what a difference you can make in just a matter of hours. All participants will receive free t-shirts, nail belts, breakfast, lunch, and snacks. We’ll also have massages, raffles, prizes for top fundraisers, and special gifts for all mothers who volunteer!
Women Build’s mission is to empower women to take action against poverty housing conditions. Women Build is not about excluding men, it is about including women and opening new doors of opportunity. Lowe’s generously underwrites Women Build and nearly 100 local women have been participating in tool use and construction technique training seminars at Lowes in Ithaca since January of this year.
Suggested shifts for Women Build Weekend are 8:30AM – 12:30PM or 12:30PM – 4:30PM; those interested in participating are encouraged to contact Habitat for Humanity to register by Monday, April 25th.
Groups are welcome to build together and volunteers are also invited to participate in our fundraising program to help gather sponsorships and reach our goal of raising $5,000 to offset construction costs.
Please join us to make some noise about the need for decent, affordable housing on our community and swing a hammer alongside, in honor of, or in memory of a woman who is important to you—what better way to celebrate Mother’s Day?
