Spring is upon us again, after a very long and cold winter. That means Easter is around the corner! If you are thinking of buying a live little Easter bunny for a small child, please think again. Not only do rabbits need daily care and attention, but they do not make good pets for small children. Rabbits are very sensitive animals and need to be handled in a calm and gentle way. They can be fatally injured if improperly held. They also can get frightened easily and bite, kick, or scratch the child. Rabbits can make wonderful pets for older children and adults. There are plenty of resources with good information about rabbits as house pets. Another Easter tradition, is buying Easter Lilies to decorate your house. Be aware that these beautiful plants, as well as others of the Liliaceae family are very toxic to cats. Any part of the plant/flower, even in very small amounts, if eaten by your cat can cause kidney failure. For any additional additional information on pet rabbits and/or Lillies, please call Southern Hills Veterinary Hospital at 315-696-6699 or email through TullyVet.com
