April 12 – CCHS Lunch & Learn: “Women’s Clubs in Homer in the Early 20th Century”

Posted by  //  March 26, 2017  //  Calendar of Events

12:10pm to 12:50pm, Cortland CountyHistorical Society, 25 Homer Ave., Cortland. In the early 20th Century, women’s clubs played a strong role in the social, cultural and economic fabric of local communities. Cortland County was no exception. Using recently digitized newspapers and club archives, Homer’s Sennightly Literary Club has reconstructed the women’s literary interests from 1903 to 1924. From this record we can see how the women’s literary interests and community work changed over time to reflect and provide insight into the local and national issues of their day–issues ranging from immigration to women’s suffrage to technology. Gail Bundy is co-historian of Homer’s Sennightly Literary Club. Bring your own lunch and we will provide dessert and beverages. For more information call (607) 756-6071, email cchsresearchrequests@yahoo.com or visit our Facebook Event.
