Dairy Princess

Julia Fouts Selected Tompkins County Dairy Princess

Posted by  //  June 23, 2014  //  News

There is a new princess in town! It is time to welcome Julia Fouts as the Tompkins County Dairy Princess. After the successful reign of the 2013 Dairy Princess, Margaret Markely, the crown has been passed to Julia. She is the sixteen-year-old daughter of Paul and Laura Fouts and works on her family’s dairy farm in Groton. Actively involved on the farm, Julia feeds calves, cleans barns, sorts cows, and helps with various other chores. Julia is currently a sophomore at Homer High School and participates in the envirothon, jazz band, soccer, and she is treasurer of her class. For Julia, the year ahead looks exciting; she plans to inform people on the healthy benefits of dairy products and to share the truth about farmers’ care of their animals and the environment.   To help you get your three servings of dairy every day, Julia suggests one of her favorite recipes – Strawberry Smoothie.  Whip up a serving today!

Julia has an energetic court of girls ready to help her in events and activities. Her Alternate, Lizzy Drake, is eager to begin her fifth year in the program. She is the sixteen-year-old daughter of Doyle and Judy Drake. Currently a sophomore at Lansing High School, Lizzy is a member of the orchestra, the swim team, and the softball team. Lizzy is also active in the 4-H Exchange Club, Little Bunny Foo-Foo’s and Jr. Tailwaggers 4-H clubs. Another member of the team is Ambassador Jordan Bergen. The daughter of Jim and Stephanie Bergen, she is a student at Odessa-Montour Central School and swims on the modified girls swim team for the Glen Gators. Jordan is a member of the NY Junior Holstein Association and is President of the Muddy Boots 4-H Club; she has also developed a passion for showing cows. Stephannie Rorick is also joining the court this year as an Ambassador. She is the daughter of Amanda Fields and Robert Rorick and the foster daughter of Evan and Brenda Carpenter. Stephannie enjoys journaling, drawing, and has found a new love of animals from helping with calf chores. She is involved in Tompkins County 4-H and will be working at a summer day camp this summer.  Stephannie and the other girls are excited for the year ahead.

The goal of the Dairy Princess Program is simple—to promote the wonderful industry that is dairy farming. Julia Fouts and her court look forward to helping support the dairy industry by appearing at community events, providing information at meetings, educating children through schools and summer camps, and watch for future news articles and recipes. The Tompkins County Dairy Princess Program is made possible through the support of the American Dairy Association and Dairy Council, the local planning and management organization funded by dairy farmer check off dollars.  Please contact Julia or Laura Fouts, at (607) 756-0532, to schedule an appearance.
