“CRT Kids” Presents “Alice In Wonderland”

Cortland Repertory Theatre’s “CRT KIDS” program will present four performances of an original version of the classic tale “Alice in Wonderland”.  Written and directed by local playwright Kim L. Hubbard, the show stars CRT’s six performing interns of the 2014 summer season.  Funny, entertaining and timely, it is appropriate for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade, and carries an important message about communication in these modern times.

Performances will be held on July 10, 12, 18 and 19 at 10:00 am at the Little York Pavilion.  Running time of the show is roughly 45 minutes.  Tickets are $6.00 per person, and may be purchased by calling 800-427-6160 or in person at the “CRT Downtown” Box Office at 24 Port Watson Street in Cortland. Tickets are also available for sale 24 hours a day through the CRT website at www.cortlandrep.org. The Ralph R. Wilkins Foundation and the Tiger Baron Foundation are sponsors of the show and the intern program.

In this fun-filled adaptation, many of the familiar characters of Alice’s trip down the rabbit hole are brought to life on stage.  Children can join Alice as she meets the frantic White Rabbit, the friendly Cheshire Cat, the loony Mad Hatter, the dancing Dodo Bird and the “off with her head” Red Queen.  In a land overwhelmed with cell phones and electronic devices, everyone seems a little off their rocker until Alice convinces them to actual speak face-to-face. Suddenly communication becomes clearer and healthier for everyone. With silly, over-the-top characters, kids will love the fun, zaniness of it all, and parents will appreciate the important message.

The cast, all members of CRT’s Performing Intern Company include Michaela Vine as Alice, Will Vickers as The Cheshire Cat, Jasmine Harris as The White Rabbit, Jordan Silver as The Dodo Bird, Patrick Brady as The Mad Hatter and Imani Pearl Williams as The Red Queen.

Assistant Director is Meredith Van Scoy, who has previously assisted Mr. Hubbard with many CRT children’s shows. Stage Manager Monica Meyer, also a member of the CRT intern program, leads the production staff, which includes Scenic Designer Cully Long, Costume Designer Jimmy Johansmeyer, Lighting Designer Louis Kreienkamp, Sound Designer Seth Asa Sengel, and Properties Designer Lisa Guild. Patrick McGovern serves as Technical Director.

Tickets are also on sale for CRT’s mainstage season, including “All Shook Up”, “Les Misérables”, “Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Jersey Lily”, “Making God Laugh”, and “Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash”. Visit cortlandrep.org for more details.
