Sustainable Cortland and Finger Lakes Bioneers will be screening the film “EMPOWERED: Power from the People,” on Tuesday, February 28 at 6:30pm at Main Street SUNY Cortland (Beard Building), 9 Main St., Cortland.  It is an environmental documentary about renewable energies in Tompkins County. Although Tompkins County is one of the cloudiest, least windy places in the country, its residents are proving that we can meet our energy needs through renewable resources, from solar and wind to veggie oil and geothermal. The film will be followed by a panel discussion. Panelists will include Shira Evergreen, the film’s director, and Suzanne McMannis, its producer.  Local panelists include representatives of Green Sun Solar of Solon, the Corset Building in Cortland (heated with veggie oil), and county residents who use renewable energies.  Those interested in learning more about the potential of sustainable energies here in Cortland County should join us for this informative discussion.  March 14th will be Sustainable Cortland’s next monthly meeting (6:30pm at the Beard Building).  It will be the annual planning meeting when community members are encouraged to come and join a committee (local foods, sustainable energy…). For more information or to share your ideas, please visit us at sustainablecortland.org or e-mail sustainablecortland@gmail.com. This event is free and open to all.
